The 2023 Royalty Soapie Awards were held at The Galleria in Sandton on Saturday evening, 11 March 2023.

The Royalty Soapie awards acknowledges the considerable role soapie play within society. Focuses on nurturing and growing talent by creating a standard of greatness of Soapies and recognizing and awarding those who excel.

Founder and CEO Winnie Ntshaba said that the awards celebrated the talent behind the soapie industry. &quotes are enormously proud to celebrate the diverse caliber of nominations from across the continent. The soapies are filmed locally highlighting South Africa’s beautiful landscapes and talent. Our strategy is to collaborate with South African tourism, is significant as it buoys our local talent and elevates them on the international stage,” she explained.

The River is looking to reclaim the leading spot as South Africa’s popular soapie as it bags over 30 nods for this year’s 6th edition, including outstanding lead actors. The River walked away with a total of five wins followed by Etvs’ House of Zwide and Mzansi Magic Gomora, with four each.

Thabiso Molokome as Paxton Kgomo made his debut on SABC 1 daily drama Skeem Saam and was voted by the viewers as the best actor and nominated as the outstanding newcomer. The outstanding supporting actor award went to the Estate’s Sparky Xulu, who played the role of Siya Phakhathwayo. In the creative and technical categories, the Estate received the outstanding make-up and hair styling awards, and uBettina Wethu received an award for outstanding Art direction.


In the voting category, 7de Laan was voted as the most popular 0 and Uzalo was the most watched show. SABC video entertainment congratulated Generations The Legacy, The Legacy creator Mfundi Vundla and Veteran actress Connie Chiume as recipients of the trailblazer award and lifetime achievement award and most of the TV drama, they were awarded according to the votes of the audiences.

The Royalty awards announced the addition of the pan African awards for daily TV drama productions from across the continent. The 7th Royalty awards will take open for entries in September 2023, Soapie awards believe that the African entertainment industry is filled with extraordinary talent and potential.
